BOSTON BECOMES FIRST MAJOR US CITY WITH AI LITERACY CURRICULUM
Boston Public Schools will become the first major US city school district to launch a comprehensive AI literacy curriculum. Mayor Michelle Wu announced the initiative at Eliot K-8 Innovation Upper School, positioning Boston as a national leader in preparing students for an AI-integrated workforce.
The curriculum covers:
- AI fundamentals for elementary students (starting Class 3 equivalent)
- Computational thinking skills
- Ethical considerations in AI use
- Practical applications across subjects
This follows India’s CBSE announcement that AI and computational thinking are now part of the curriculum for Classes 3-8. The Central Board of Secondary Education introduced the curriculum in early April, making India one of the first countries to mandate AI education at the primary level.
The University of Texas at Arlington launched an AI webinar series for K-12 and higher education teachers, helping educators integrate AI into their classrooms. The four-session series covers practical, ethical, and creative uses of AI.
For educators and parents:
- AI literacy is moving from optional to mandatory
- Early exposure (ages 8-10) is becoming standard
- Teacher training programs are expanding rapidly
- Ethical use is a core component
The global trend is clear: AI education is no longer about whether to teach it, but how quickly to integrate it. Countries and cities that move first will have significant advantages in workforce readiness.
